The EU could “act quickly and firmly” against what it calls “unjustified” travel bans imposed by the US on five European individuals working on fighting online hate and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.
European Leaders Decry US Move as ‘Coercion’
European leaders such as the French president charged Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans targeted individuals who have been at the heart of efforts to introduce laws governing American tech companies.
“For far too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to punish American viewpoints they disagree with,” stated a senior US official in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
